Response to the Ques on Creative Community:
Ques:: what do you think needs to happen in order to build a creative community?
Or, describe to the class the creative community you would like to be a part of, either in this course or in your part of the world, and how you intend to build it.
To build a creative community, you must have things ( minimum requirements :: visually interesting ideas + people w open positive spirit ) that attract people - beautiful surrounding, easy going ambiance, free no risk self expressions, public transit access.  The creative community that I like to be a part of is one where people could just play with ideas and do things - good living things.  Using the existing tools and material resources - the less administrative rules the better.  To build such a community, I would start with my own home first.  Make it pleasant so people want to come to my house.  I would put gd food and drinks on the table, have a large table with dishes all ready to go.  I would have a large outdoor space - like a garden where people could be outside with soft warm sun and nice vegetation with sweet air.  People could come and even sleep over in my house, or if they want bring a tent and sleep in the garden if they want.

A creative community is best near a large library, large swimming pool (public) and lots of normal commercial activities nearby.  Not up in a mountain.  It should be situated in an ordinary urban fabric, so that you could meet ordinary people.  Because ordinary people have a different schedule from the artist types.  Their lives could be complemented with people who has extraordinary visions.  We need all types of people, all types of temperaments to make a Creative Community.  If the Creative Community is all Creative People without any bigger group thats non-Creative Community, it will be a disaster.  Too singular, one type people communities do not work.

INSTRUCTIONS:

In your sketchbook, make or describe something (or choose a work by another artist) that stands for what you think art really should be in your perfect world—if art was daring, bold, unique and special, if it was community-building or affirming, if it made the world a better place or turned the world on its head. Here, you get to decide.
  1. Then, make or describe something (or choose a work by another artist) that stands for what you think people in the world think art should be—because a teacher or expert told you that’s what art is, or because that’s what you think “good art" is, or because you think this is what the art market wants, etc.
  2. Then, make or describe something (or choose a work by another artist) that stands for what you think people in the world think art should be—because a teacher or expert told you that’s what art is, or because that’s what you think “good art" is, or because you think this is what the art market wants, etc.
  3. Photograph or scan your two images/descriptions, or if you are using a digital sketchbook, copy the permalink to your post. (If you are including a work by another artist, please do not post an image that you don't have permission to use; post a link instead.)
  4. Head over to this forum, and start a new thread. Paste your two images/texts/links into the post. Include a short description and citation if necessary. Add a title for your post, such as "Sketchbook Assignment 1 - my submission".
  5. Finally, if your version of what art should be like and what the world thinks art should be like are the same, great! If they are different, then think about those differences a bit and write down your thoughts below your uploaded images/text/links.
  6. Click "Create new thread". You're done!
